Dementia & Memory Assessments

Our Geriatricians perform comprehensive assessments and management plans for patients with concerns relating to memory loss, cognitive difficulties and confusion. Comprehensive assessments involve testing for attention, concentration, memory, problem-solving and verbal skills.

Memory assessments can take some time to complete and we will schedule your appointments with this in mind.

There are many possible causes for memory loss such as:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Undetected small strokes
  • Depression and or anxiety
  • Medication interactions
  • Sleeping problems
  • Thyroid disorders
  • Vitamin deficiencies

After memory loss has been diagnosed, our geriatricians will tailor an effective treatment plan to suit your individual needs and lifestyle. Therefore, we do recommend that the patient attend with a family member, carer or friend.

Our geriatricians are available to discuss different strategies to aid in the prevention of dementia and provide different treatment options that may be suitable.

In the event that a diagnosis of dementia is made, patient’s may experience issues such as aggression, agitation, anxiety and depression, hallucinations and delusions and our geriatricians are available to provide support, advice and strategies to help alleviate these problems.
